While it’s recommended that adults change their mattresses every eight years, it’s sooner for children who grow quickly at young ages and require different types of support. For children aged between three and 10, you should look to change their mattress every three years. Change the mattress every five years for 10 to 16-year-olds.

A toddler mattress can be a range of materials but it must be supportive, comfortable and breathable.

• Support – Toddlers require firmer mattresses to help their spines develop properly. A memory foam mattress is a bad choice as it contours to the body, stunting the spine’s growth.
• Breathable – As babies and toddlers struggle to regulate their temperatures, they require a breathable mattress to prevent them from overheating at night.
• Comfort – The mattress, of course, needs to be comfortable so they can sleep soundly each night, otherwise your sleepless nights will continue!

You should aim to move your child into a toddler bed between the ages of 18 months and three years old.
