The benefits of bunk beds
Your kid’s bedroom is their own personal space - it’s a playroom, learning area, and a place for sleep. With so much going on, it can be very easy to run out of space, which is where a bunk bed really shines.
Saving space: one of the best things about bunk beds is that they can help you recover lost space in the bedroom. Having two beds in one room can quickly shrink the floor space, leaving hardly any room for activities. By doubling up your kids’ beds into one, durable bed frame, you can regain that lost space and boost the room’s potential.
Bunk beds aren’t just available as two separate bed frames. If you’re working with an already small space and want to make the most of it, you can choose a bunk bed that combines bulky furniture, like desks or wardrobes, into the bed frame itself.
Saving money: not only are bunk beds space efficient, but they can sometimes be a cheaper option. Combining two beds into one may cost less than buying two separate frames, for example. If you’re a growing family on a budget, this is a great benefit!
Bonding: bunk beds can even help your children bond by teaching them how to share. Splitting up a space evenly is also good for helping set boundaries between them.
Considerations when buying a bunk bed
Before you decide which bunk bed to buy, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Safety: your child’s safety is our biggest priority. The bunk beds we sell come designed with safety features in mind, like railings and panelling around all sides of the top bunk to help prevent accidents.
Room size: the dimensions of your bunk bed will vary depending on the style you choose. You’ll need to make sure that your room is large enough to fit the size of your choice, whether it’s a shared kids bedroom or a guest room. We recommend adding on a one or two metres to your estimations, to allow for any extra furniture you have.
Storage needs: bunk beds are versatile, and can help you kill two birds with one stone, so make sure you consider your storage needs, too. Bunk beds with storage provide plenty of room for clothes, toys, spare bedding, pillows, and even books for those all-important bedtime stories.
Age ranges: depending on how old your child is, your bunk bed needs may differ. Young teens, for example, could prefer a bunk bed with a built-in desk to play games, chat with friends, or do their homework. Younger children, on the other hand, may need more storage options for their clothes or toys. Don’t forget the size of the mattress.
While single bunk beds are suitable for one small child in either bunk, they may ask for their own small double bunk as they get older.

Assembly: all our bunk beds arrive flat-packed. This means that you’ll need to build them yourself. Assembly instructions for each bed can either be found in the packaging, or on the product’s page on our website.
For most beds, you’ll need: a screwdriver (or a low-powered drill) with Phillips, pozi drive, or hex heads and a soft mallet. If you get stuck, just contact our customer service team, who’ll be happy to help.
Maintenance: you should clean your bunk bed by wiping it down occasionally with a damp, lint-free towel. You shouldn’t use strong chemicals, as these can potentially damage the finish of the frame.
Types of bunk beds
We sell all the main types of bunk beds, with each one suited to different uses. This includes sizes from single to double, as well as materials like wood and metal.
Bunk bed styles
We’ve got lots of bunk bed styles to choose from, including:
Triple Bunk Beds: feature a double (or small double) mattress on the bottom bunk, offering plenty of room to grow.
Gaming Bunk Beds: come with integrated desks to hold the perfect gaming setup.
L Shaped Bunk Beds: offer an L-shaped desk to enhance space and storage.
High Sleeper Beds: provide enough space for taller storage options like wardrobes and bookcases.
Mid Sleeper Beds: allow for shorter storage options like cupboards and cabinets.
Low Sleeper Beds: have lower top bunks than mid sleepers, offering storage with shelves and cubbies.
Detachable Bunk Beds: also known as convertible or separable bunk beds, detachable bunk beds can be split into two separate single beds if needed. This provides greater flexibility, making them a great long-term investment for growing children or changing bedroom arrangements.
Bunk bed materials
Bunk beds are commonly made from one of two materials: wood or metal. Each material has its own advantages:
Wooden Bunk Beds: most of the bunk beds we sell are made of wood. Wood is a lightweight, durable material that’s easy to work with and assemble. It’s also easily repairable.
Metal Bunk Beds: metal bunk beds tend to be heavier than their wooden counterparts, but they also offer more durability. The material isn’t as prone to flexing or warping, and is naturally water-resistant.
Bunk bed sizes
Single Bunk Beds (3'0" x 6'3"): suitable for most children over four years, as well as young teenagers, single bunk beds are the smallest size we have available.
Small Double Bunk Beds (4'0" x 6'3"): sitting between single bunk beds and standard double bunk beds, small double bunk beds add an extra foot of width, while keeping the same length as a single.
Double Bunk Beds (4'6" x 6'3"): double bunk beds are the largest size on offer. They can comfortably fit two sleepers if needed with six more inches of width over the small double.
