Their first grown up bed
As a step up from a toddler bed, a single kids’ bed is a popular choice for many children’s bedrooms. Their slim design allows them to be used in even the smallest of spaces, while still offering many functional benefits such as increased storage, or even additional sleeping space for guests and siblings.
Our single kids’ bed collection includes day beds, cabin beds, bunk beds, and many others designed to give your child the perfect night’s sleep.
The benefits of a kids' single bed
Designed for complete comfort, a single kids’ bed is a great choice for many children’s bedrooms. The main benefits include:
Space-saving design: Available as either a standard single (3’0 x 6’3”) or European single (3’0 x 6,6”), a kids’ single bed frame is slim, meaning it won’t take up too much floor space.
Versatile and adaptable choices: Offered in a variety of styles, colours and materials, you’ll be sure to find a single bed that blends perfectly with bedroom decor, matches existing furniture, and offers room to grow.
Budget-friendly: Single kids’ beds will often combine the benefits of two different pieces of furniture. Whether it’s a wardrobe or a desk, you could save money by choosing an all-in-one piece, compared to multiple furniture items.
Storage options: Many of our single kids’ beds come with storage features built in. This provides a neat, hidden space to keep clutter out of the way.
Considerations when buying a single kids’ bed
Given such benefits, you might be all set to buy a single kids’ bed. Before you do, just be sure to consider the following first:
Safety: Safety should be your first priority in choosing a kids’ bed - it certainly is for us. Each of our frames is designed to meet British safety standards, while our taller options are designed with safety railings and barriers to prevent accidents.
Room size and layout: Although single beds are slim, it’s important to measure your kids’ bedrooms to ensure ample access and comfort before you make a purchase. As a rough guide, a bed shouldn’t take up more than 30% of a bedroom’s total size.
Children’s age: Given the size increase over a toddler bed, a single kids’ bed is usually recommended to children who are older than 24 months of age. At this age, they’ll have likely outgrown their smaller bed frames and be in need of something a little larger.
Assembly: Every bed we sell, including our single kids’ beds, will arrive flat-packed. This does make delivery a little more straightforward; however, it also means that you’ll need to build the bed frame yourself when it arrives. Don’t panic, though. Each bed should take no longer than a couple of hours to build (if that), and all you’ll need is a screwdriver, a soft mallet, and a mixture of Phillips and Pozidriv screw heads.
Types of single kids’ beds
Made by reputable brands such as Kidsaw, Obaby, and Stompa, our range of single kids' beds includes:
Single kids’ bed styles
Most of our extensive kids’ bed range can be found in a standard single size, which includes:
Captain’s Beds: A type of platform bed, a captain’s bed features underbed storage in the form of drawers, cabinets, and cupboards.
Day Beds: These multi-purpose bed frames can be transformed into a sitting area/sofa in the day, before becoming a traditional bed by night.
Cabin Beds: Cabin beds are similar to a mid-sleeper bunk bed, featuring a raised sleeping platform that makes space for desks, storage, or other mattresses.
Teenager Beds: These feature slightly more grown-up designs, often featuring desk space and storage underneath the bed.
Kids’ Loft Beds: Loft beds are raised high from the ground (like a high sleeper bunk bed), making way for taller underbed storage underneath like wardrobes, study spaces, and bookcases.
Kids’ Trundle Beds: Trundle beds are designed to be versatile, featuring pull-out mattresses for sleepovers.
Kids’ Guest Beds: From folding beds, to beds with trundles and even sofa beds, a kids’ guest bed can come in quite handy for sleepovers and parties.
Kids’ Storage Beds: This collection of kids’ beds is designed to improve organisation around their bedroom. They feature various storage options, from cupboards and drawers to bookcases and wardrobes.
Single kids’ bed materials
Most of our kids’ beds are made from wood, specifically, MFC (melamine-faced chipboard). Finished in a tough exterior, this material can be easily cleaned and wiped down following any accidents. Each bed also comes with high-quality fixtures and fittings to keep your child safe and secure throughout the night.
Single kids’ bed dimensions
All single kids’ beds will measure a standard size of 3’0 in width and 6’3 in length. However, we also offer kids’ single beds in a slightly larger European single size, which are 3” longer in comparison.
If a single isn’t quite right, worry not. There are many other bed sizes available in our kids’ range:
Toddler Beds (2’3” x 4’ 7”): Toddler beds are smaller than standard bed sizes and are designed to be used by children aged one to four.
Small Double Kids’ Beds (4'0" x 6'3"): Sitting between single kids’ beds and standard double kids’ beds, small double kids’ beds add an extra foot of width, while keeping the same length as a single.
Double Kids’ Beds (4'6" x 6'3"): Double kids’ beds are the largest available. They can comfortably fit two or three sleepers, if needed, with six more inches of width over the small double.
