Big storage for big needs
While shopping for your child’s bedroom, it can be easy to run out of space. After adding a wardrobe, chest of drawers, and storage boxes, you might notice that their floor space is almost entirely gone. Although challenging - don’t worry. There’s a solution!
You can fix that issue by combining furniture into fewer separate pieces with a high sleeper bed. Doing so means you can reclaim that lost space without giving up the things your kids love. These beds aren’t just practical, though - they can also become a part of playtime, transforming into a hidden den or secret hiding place.
The benefits of high sleeper beds
Aside from being tall enough to offer larger storage options, high sleeper bunk beds come with a range of benefits:
Saving space: bunk beds (especially high sleeper bunk beds) are great at ensuring the space in your child’s bedroom doesn’t go to waste. Rather than waving goodbye to the room a traditional kids bed takes up, high sleeper bunk beds allow you to add things like wardrobes, cupboards, and drawers for storing all sorts of essentials within the bed frame itself.
Money savings: shopping for furniture can be costly, especially when investing in separate pieces. Sometimes, choosing a multi-purpose piece of furniture (like a high sleeper bunk bed) can be more cost-effective. For those on a budget, this can make a real difference!
Work and play in one: high sleeper bunk beds aren’t just available with storage options. Some frames even feature desks, which can be great for finishing homework or playing video games.
Considerations when buying a kids high sleeper bunk bed
If you’re sold on a high sleeper, be sure to consider the following before checking out:
Safety: sleeping on the top bunk requires appropriate safety measures. Every bunk bed we sell (including high sleeper bunk beds) have safety features built-in, like railings and barriers.
Room size: high sleeper bunk beds can sometimes be taller than mid sleepers. This means you’ll need to check the height of your child’s bedroom before assembly.
Storage needs: because of their height, high sleeper bunk beds offer a lot of storage possibilities. Make sure that the frame you choose meets your child’s storage needs before buying, as this may alter the style or configuration required.
If you need help choosing the right bed for your child’s needs, see our guide: Which type of bunk bed does your child need?
Age ranges: high sleeper bunk beds will only offer a single raised bunk most of the time. This means that children under the age of four should not use them. These beds are best suited to kids six and over.
Assembly: every bed we sell arrives flat-packed, meaning you’ll have to put it together yourself. Putting a high sleeper bunk bed together can be a little more challenging due to its height but don’t worry, you can do it! At most, all you’ll need is: a screwdriver (or a low-powered drill) with Phillips, pozi drive, or hex heads, and a soft mallet.
If you need help or have questions about assembly, contact our friendly customer service team for advice.
Maintenance: keeping your new high sleeper bunk bed clean is simple. Just wipe it down every so often with a damp cloth to pick up dust. Don’t use harsh cleaning chemicals, as these can strip the finish.
Types of high sleeper bunk beds
We have many different styles of high sleeper bunk beds to choose from. Whether it’s material choice, including wood or metal, or the type of storage offered underneath.
If a high sleeper isn't right for you, we have loads of other beds available:
Triple Bunk Beds: feature a double (or small double) mattress on the bottom bunk, offering plenty of room to grow.
Gaming Bunk Beds: come with integrated desks to hold the perfect gaming setup.
L Shaped Bunk Beds: offer an L-shaped desk to enhance space and storage.
Mid Sleeper Beds: shorter than our high sleeper range, mid sleepers allow for shorter storage options like cupboards and cabinets.
Low Sleeper Beds: have lower top bunks than mid sleepers, offering storage with shelves and cubbies.
Detachable Bunk Beds: also known as convertible or separable bunk beds, detachable bunk beds can be split into two separate single beds if needed. This provides greater flexibility, making them a great long-term investment for growing children or changing bedroom arrangements.
High sleeper bed materials
Like most other kinds of bunk bed, high sleeper beds are made in one of two materials:
Wooden Bunk Beds: wood is a highly common choice for bunk beds, due to its versatility and light weight.
Metal Bunk Beds: metal offers more rigidity to a bed frame compared to wood, and is less likely to warp over time.
High sleeper bunk bed sizes
Most high sleeper beds will feature one single mattress on the top bunk, which is suitable for kids over six years of age. Other bunk bed sizes available include:
Single Bunk Beds (3'0" x 6'3"): suitable for most children over four years, as well as young teenagers, single bunk beds are the smallest size we have available.
Small Double Bunk Beds (4'0" x 6'3"): sitting between single bunk beds and standard double bunk beds, small double bunk beds add an extra foot of width, while keeping the same length as a single.
Double Bunk Beds (4'6" x 6'3"): double bunk beds are the largest available. They can comfortably fit two or three sleepers if needed, with six more inches of width over the small double.
