Convenient and cosy

If you’re running out of places to store toys, books, and clothes in your child’s bedroom, you might be feeling a bit lost. But don’t worry, an L-shaped bunk bed could be your saviour. These beds offer a ‘best of both worlds’ approach by mixing storage, desk space, and seating in many forms.

The top bunk is raised to allow storage and desk space underneath that extends outward to create an ‘L’ shape. If you’ve got multiple pieces of furniture that are taking up space, choosing an L-shaped bunk bed can help you cut back and get more from the room.

The benefits of L-shaped bunk beds

As a space-savvy piece of furniture, L-shaped bunk beds are handy for many children’s bedrooms. The main benefits include:

Storage space: in rooms filled with toys, clothes, books, and more, storage space can be hard to come by. L-shaped bunk beds solve this problem by providing plenty of space underneath for drawers, pull-out seating, and even a desk..

Money savings: buying (and matching) multiple kinds of furniture in a single room can be costly. By marrying up your child’s bed with their storage, you can not only maximise the space they have for activities, but potentially save some money too!

Saving space: with increased storage comes increased space saving. Combining multiple pieces of furniture into one solid bed frame reduces the floor space they take up, allowing more room for activities.

Considerations when buying an L-shaped bunk bed

Before you take the plunge and buy an L-shaped bunk bed, make sure you’ve taken the following considerations on board:

Safety: with storage and desk space on the bottom, L-shaped bunk beds will commonly have a top bunk for sleeping in. To keep your child safe while sleeping, all our bunk beds have railings and barriers to prevent accidents.

Room size: compared to traditional kids beds, bunk beds (including L-shaped bunk beds) can have greater height requirements. This means it’s important to check that your kid’s bedroom has a ceiling tall enough for the bed frame to fit once built.

Storage needs: L-shaped bunk beds are available in many styles, each with their own storage options. Be sure to check these before ordering, as not all styles will have the same types of storage.

For more help choosing the right bed for your child, read our guide: Which type of bunk bed does your child need?

Age ranges: L-shaped bunk beds have a top bunk. Only children over the age of six should sleep on the top bunk. If they’ve not had a bunk bed before, make sure you teach them how to be safe while sleeping!

Assembly: we sell all bunk beds flat-packed. This means you’ll need to build the frame when it’s delivered. Don’t worry, each bed comes with its own instructions and needs only a few tools to put together. Make sure you have: a screwdriver (or a low-powered drill) with Phillips, pozi drive, or hex heads, and a soft mallet. If you get stuck, contact our customer service team, who are always on hand to help out.

Cleaning: keeping your L-shaped bunk bed clean is easy: just wipe it over with a damp cloth every so often to keep it free from dust. Don’t use harsh cleaning chemicals, as these can damage the finish.

Types of L-shaped bunk beds

To cater for many different needs, we offer a wide selection of L-shaped bunk beds. This includes material choices like wood and metal, as well as underbed storage options.

L-shaped bunk bed materials

L-shaped bunk beds are available in two material choices:

Wooden Bunk Beds: wood is a lightweight and versatile material, making it a common choice for bunk beds.

Metal Bunk Beds:  bunk beds can also be made from entirely metal frames, which offer slightly better resistance to bending and warping.

L-shaped bunk bed sizes

L-shaped bunk beds will often only have one top bunk, meaning they can mostly be found featuring a single mattress. Other sizes of bunk beds available include:

Single Bunk Beds (3'0" x 6'3"): suitable for most children over four years, as well as young teenagers, single bunk beds are the smallest size we have available.

Small Double Bunk Beds (4'0" x 6'3"): sitting between single bunk beds and standard double bunk beds, small double bunk beds add an extra foot of width, while keeping the same length as a single.

Double Bunk Beds (4'6" x 6'3"): double bunk beds are the largest available. They can comfortably fit two or three sleepers if needed, with six more inches of width over the small double.
