The benefits of teenager beds
Offering more grown-up facilities, a teenager’s bed has many advantages, such as:
Suited to growing teens: As a step up from smaller types of kids beds (in particular toddler beds), teenager beds are mostly available in standard UK bed frame sizes. This makes them perfect for the growing teenager, offering them plenty of additional space to toss and turn throughout the night, without feeling cramped.
Great for coursework: Having a quiet space to work is so important to your teenager. With their own place to focus, they are free to ponder and think about their work with fewer distractions. Unfortunately, having a bed frame and full-size desk can quickly dominate a room, taking up precious floor space. By combining both items into one piece of furniture, you can help your teen take control of their bedroom, without making any sacrifices.
Varied designs: Every teenager has different tastes. By offering a wide variety of teenager beds available in all sorts of styles and sizes, you can ensure your child’s unique needs and preferences are met with ease.
Smart storage: While focusing on school, your teenager’s bedroom can sometimes suffer. Thankfully, some teenager beds offer great storge facilities, which allow you to minimise clutter and keep the space clear and functional.
Considerations when buying a teenager bed
To pick the best bed for your teenager, make sure you take the following into account:
Room size: Many bed frame choices will be restricted by the sheer size of your child’s bedroom. Larger bedrooms offer more space, which naturally paves the way for bigger bed frames. For smaller rooms, however, your goal will be to make the bed frame as functional as possible. This can involve choosing storage-focused, from the likes of cabin beds or captain’s beds.
Storage: So, you’ve settled on a storage bed for your teenager, but what do you plan on keeping in it? At this stage, try to visualise what sort of items you’ll be keeping in their bed. For larger items like spare bedding or duvets, you’ll need to choose wide, deep storage options. But, for smaller pieces, a few cabinets or cubbies should do just fine.
Assembly: Every teenager’s bed we sell will arrive flat-packed. This makes them easier to deliver and move to your child’s bedroom, but they will need to be built. Don’t panic, you won’t need any major DIY skills. For a successful build, all you’ll need is a screwdriver (or a low-powered drill) with Phillips, pozi drive, or hex heads, and maybe a soft mallet. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and in need of help, feel free to contact us and we’ll see how we can help.
Cleaning: To make cleaning a little bit easier, our teenager beds are easily cleaned with nothing more than a clean, damp cloth. We recommend wiping your teen’s bed down occasionally, avoiding harsh cleaning chemicals.
Types of teen beds
Perfect for growing teens, we’ve got various styles and sizes for you to choose from.
Teenager bed styles
Captain’s Beds: A type of platform bed, a captain’s bed features underbed storage in the form of drawers, cabinets, and cupboards.
Day Beds: These multi-purpose bed frames can be transformed into a sitting area/sofa in the day, before becoming a traditional bed by night.
Cabin Beds: Cabin beds are similar to a mid-sleeper bunk bed, featuring a raised sleeping platform that makes space for desks, storage, or other mattresses.
Kids’ Loft Beds: Loft beds are raised high from the ground (like a high sleeper bunk bed), making way for taller underbed storage underneath like wardrobes, study spaces, and bookcases.
Kids’ Trundle Beds: Trundle beds are designed to be versatile, featuring pull-out mattresses for sleepovers.
Kids’ Guest Beds: From folding beds, to beds with trundles and even sofa beds, a kids’ guest bed can come in quite handy for sleepovers and parties.
Kids’ Storage Beds: This collection of kids’ beds is designed to improve organisation around their bedroom. They feature various storage options, from cupboards and drawers to bookcases and wardrobes.
Low Sleeper Beds: Although low sleepers are close to the ground, they make no compromises on storage. These bed frames offer drawers, cubbies, and cupboards underneath the main sleeping platform - perfect for keeping spare clothes, pillows, and bedding out of the way.
Mid Sleeper Beds: As a compromise between a low and high sleeper, mid sleeper beds offer an elevated sleeping position, with more than enough space underneath for drawers, cupboards, and sometimes desks.
High Sleeper Beds: When vertical space is no concern, a high sleeper bed makes a great choice, especially for teenagers. By offering an even higher sleeping space, high sleepers allow for much taller storage options to be offered underneath, like full-size wardrobes and even desks.
Teenager bed materials
Most of our teenager beds are made from wood. Our wooden beds are mainly made from melamine faced chipboard (MFC). MFC combines high-quality chipboard with a plastic-like outer layer which can be styled in various ways - from colours like white, grey, and black, to wood-like finishes.
Teenager bed sizes
Designed for your growing teen, teenager beds are available in standard UK child’s bed sizes, including:
Single Kids’ Beds (3'0" x 6'3"): Suitable for most children over four years, as well as young teenagers, single kids’ beds are the second smallest size we have available.
Small Double Kids’ Beds (4'0" x 6'3"): Sitting between single kids’ beds and standard double kids’ beds, small double kids’ beds add an extra foot of width, while keeping the same length as a single.
Double Kids’ Beds (4'6" x 6'3"): Double kids’ beds are the largest available. They can comfortably fit two or three sleepers, if needed, with six more inches of width over the small double.
